Nine months ago I felt that I got to hit the “Play” button on my life once more. For the nine months prior to that, I felt that my life had been put on “Pause.” As a brand new blogger at the time, I wrote about that here.
I say “felt” because feelings are not always the truth. The truth is that even when we feel that we are in “Pause” mode, life is never on pause! Life is always on “Play” because God is always at “Play” working behind the scenes, and more importantly, in us. I can look back now and see how God was actively at work during that long pause. Preparing me. I am so grateful to Him for everything I learned during that waiting time.
With every waiting comes the potential for new blessings.
Think of the miracle of life growing in a womb. There’s waiting.
Think of that seed planted in the soil that yields a crop. There’s waiting.
We’re waiting. But He is working.
If your life feels as if it is on pause right now, be encouraged! God is working during your waiting!
(all emphasis is mine in these following verses)
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” (Lam 3:25)
“Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.” (Prov 20:22)
“They shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.” (Isaiah 49:23)
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2:10)
In our household, we have a few more days of waiting, and then our eldest daughter gets married. This time of waiting has also been one of preparing. If as parents we had told our daughter and her fiance that they must get married quickly, there would have been stress and anxiety, and they would have missed the blessing of preparing, anticipating, and moving forward in peace. Why do we think our Heavenly Father would act any differently in relation to us? When our life feels as if it’s on “Pause,” praise Him! When nothing feels as if it is going right, praise Him! He is a God who prepares us during the waiting. He is always working! He always has His finger on the “Play” button even when we feel as if it is on “Pause.”
In a devotional I read this morning Charles Stanley says that it’s in waiting that we discover God’s will, we receive supernatural strength, we win battles, we see the fulfillment of our faith, and we see God working on our behalf. I don’t know about you, but they are pretty cool blessings. I would add that God is also preparing us during the waiting. What is He preparing us for? New assignments. But more on that later! I have a daughter’s wedding to be thinking about!
Jo 🙂

Jo, there are many great nuggets of wisdom in this post. We are blessed that you started to blog. I pray that your daughter and soon-to-be husband grow together in a bond of unity and enduring love.

I needed your words, Jo. I’m in a waiting period myself right now. “He is always working! He always has His finger on the “Play” button even when we feel as if it is on “Pause.” Thank God for his presence and power when I’m weak and weary and struggling with the whole “wait” scene. Like Cindy mentioned in her comment “when we think nothing is happening, God is still at work”. That’s a powerful truth that I need to cling to. Thank you for encouraging me today!
