Pause, Play, Prepare

Nine months ago I felt that I got to hit the “Play” button on my life once more. For the nine months prior to that, I felt that my life had been put on “Pause.” As a brand new blogger at the time, I wrote about that here.

I say “felt” because feelings are not always the truth. The truth is that even when we feel that we are in “Pause” mode, life is never on pause! Life is always on “Play” because God is always at “Play” working behind the scenes, and more importantly, in us. I can look back now and see how God was actively at work during that long pause. Preparing me. I am so grateful to Him for everything I learned during that waiting time.

With every waiting comes the potential for new blessings.

Think of the miracle of life growing in a womb. There’s waiting.

Think of that seed planted in the soil that yields a crop. There’s waiting.

We’re waiting. But He is working.

If your life feels as if it is on pause right now, be encouraged! God is working during your waiting!

(all emphasis is mine in these following verses)

The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” (Lam 3:25)

Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.” (Prov 20:22)

They shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.” (Isaiah 49:23)

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2:10)

In our household, we have a few more days of waiting, and then our eldest daughter gets married. This time of waiting has also been one of preparing. If as parents we had told our daughter and her fiance that they must get married quickly, there would have been stress and anxiety, and they would have missed the blessing of preparing, anticipating, and moving forward in peace. Why do we think our Heavenly Father would act any differently in relation to us? When our life feels as if it’s on “Pause,” praise Him! When nothing feels as if it is going right, praise Him! He is a God who prepares us during the waiting. He is always working! He always has His finger on the “Play” button even when we feel as if it is on “Pause.”

In a devotional I read this morning Charles Stanley says that it’s in waiting that we discover God’s will, we receive supernatural strength, we win battles, we see the fulfillment of our faith, and we see God working on our behalf. I don’t know about you, but they are pretty cool blessings. I would add that God is also preparing us during the waiting. What is He preparing us for? New assignments. But more on that later! I have a daughter’s wedding to be thinking about!

  1. Amen, Jo! God is like one of those apps that’s always working (for our good) in the background—even when life is seemingly paused. I know this is truth but find it hard to believe sometimes. Life has a way of taking the wind out of our sails. But, if you’re God’s child, it’s enough.

    Blessings!

  2. Thank you for this reminder, Jo. Today I felt like I have been waiting on the Lord since I retired. But just now I realized I hadn’t been. He has been showing up every waking morning and tucking me in every evening bedtime. Thank you! And God bless you and your family on the occasion of your eldest daughter’s wedding!

  3. Thank you for this precious encouragement Jo. It is so true that sometimes we need to wait for His perfect timing, and how blessed it is when we see His blessings on us and our loved ones. Incidentally another sister wrote about life verses today with whom I shared one of mines from Psalm 27:

    Wait for the Lord;
    Be strong and let your heart take courage;
    Yes, wait for the Lord.
    — Psalm 27:14

    May our Father God bless you and your family in this time of waiting and preparation, Amen 🙏

  4. In our waiting we always feel like nothing is happening but God is working. Although we do not feel like it, we know he is and I think that knowledge is what we need to rest on during those times.
    Have a wonderful time celebrating your daughter’s wedding Jo. God’s blessings upon her and to be hubby as they start this chapter of their lives.

  5. So many beautiful nuggets to glean from this post and jot down in my journal, Jo. “When our life feels as if it’s on “Pause,” praise Him!” & “We’re waiting. But He is working.” I do need to work on focusing on Him in the wait and not being so fidgety. May you and your husband enjoy each moment of your daughter’s wedding. I’m sure she is feeling especially blessed to have you with her on this special day.

    Thank you Jo for sharing! I’m currently writing an article similar to this and it’s true that in our waiting, God prepares us and is forever on the play button.

    Enjoy the special day and congratulations to your daughter!

  8. I love Charles Stanley, and I even met him once. I also love your post. It can feel frustrating when we are waiting. Buy waiting can also be a time of sweet joy, if we lean into God during the process. We have to trust Him. I pray all goes well with the wedding. ♥️✝️🦋🙏🙌
