Destination Home

The longest dead straight road on the planet is found in Australia. It stretches 1100 kilometres (684 miles) across the Nullarbor Plain between South and West Australia. There’s no way you can get lost because there are literally no detours. Aussies call it the Nullar-boring, because of its lack of visual stimulation!

Sometimes we expect life to be like that…an easy road straight from Point A to Point B with no unexpected detours in between. But wouldn’t that also make life boring?

Life is a windy road. Full of twists and turns, hills and valleys, which are the very things that mould us, shape us, grow us, and help us to be exactly the person God desires us to be. Sometimes that’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s the truth. Life’s roads are never straight and easy.

In a few days, my husband and I literally hit the road to do the road trip we were supposed to do in 2021, but couldn’t because in 2021 life threw us a major detour in the form of cancer. But now the road trip is happening! For the next two months, we will be making our way up through central Queensland into the far (much warmer) north, then working our way back down the coast to arrive home in time for our daughter’s wedding.

It struck me this morning that even though we’ll be travelling thousands of kilometres and traversing all sorts of different countryside, our destination is actually “HOME”.

We are coming home for a wedding.

Does that sound familiar?

Scripture tells us that we too are invited home. Home to be with Jesus forever, if we have put our faith and trust in Him as our Lord and Saviour. He has a wonderful wedding feast planned for His Bride, His church. What a glorious day that will be!

I hope to continue blogging while on the road, but who knows? Stay tuned!

Jo 🙂

  1. Life is indeed a winding road, Jo. I hope you and your husband enjoy your trip. Please do keep blogging while your gone. It doesn’t have to be long, just a picture or two and a brief thought. Your life experiences are worth reading about, and your walk with God is inspiring. God speed!

  2. I don’t just like this, I love this post. Brought tears to my eyes. Home. The destination. After the ever challenging roads of life, what a destination! You and I have never met, but I feel certain we will meet … In our common eternal destination/home. Thank you for sharing your story. Enjoy your big trip.
